Registration has started at the three community colleges of Ventura County Community College District. Spring semester begins January 7, 2008. Returning students began registering online by appointment on December 3. All students may register online beginning December 10, with no appointment required. High school special admission students can register in person at the Admissions and Records Offices starting December 11. Walk-in registration begins January 2, and students in grade 9 or below can register beginning January 7.
Students may register for full semester spring courses in person through January 18 and online through January 20. Additional late start and short-term courses are available that begin in January, February, and March. In addition to the full semester day and evening courses, the colleges offer weekend courses, short-term courses, one-day seminars, and online courses. Offering more than 3,000 courses in 100 majors and programs, the three colleges provide general education, transfer preparation, career programs, skills enhancement, and lifelong learning courses. Moorpark College has several specialized writing courses, including BUS M39-Business Communication, RT M05-Radio/TV Script Writing, ENG M10A-Creative Writing, JOUR M02-Writing/Reporting for Media, JOUR M04-Magazine Article Writing, and JOUR M14-Intro to Public Relations.
Moorpark College’s new drop-in Writing Center, located in the Library, has programs to meet the needs of each stage in a student’s academic career. In addition to providing one-to-one assistance as needed during regular business hours, workshops are available for basic writing skills, as well as specialized writing workshops for business, social science, medicine, etc., for those students preparing for upper division research.
With California resident fees at just $20 per unit, the California community college is still the best value in higher education, costing thousands of dollars less than a California state or private university. Students who have not yet graduated from high school can enroll at any Ventura County community college concurrently and will not be required to pay enrollment fees.
