TICKET PRICE: All tickets $10.00 As part of the Year of the Environment at Moorpark College, the Theatre Arts department will present “O Mother Earth, O Father Sky”—a multi-media performance with audience interaction, which informs about environmental issues and asserts that man in an integral part of nature. Theatre professor, Katherine Lewis, and a group of students created this performance piece as a service learning project: “Our hope is that if enough people understand the impact of current human behavior on the planet—this behavior will change. There needs to be a massive shift in human awareness—a realization that our survival as a species depends upon the realization that all of life is inter-connected.” The two public performances are: Sunday, October 14 at 2:00 and Thursday, October 18 at 7:30 in the Studio Theatre (PA 100). Tickets are $10.00.
The ticket money will be used to support the “Butterfly Project”, which was brought to the college by Biology Professor Jana Johnson and designed to save the Palos Verdes blue and Lange's Metalmark butterflies by captive propagation. “These butterflies were thought to have been extinct for 11 years, and to be able to recover from that is stunning,” said Jana. "We hand-fed our butterflies every day. It allowed us to extend their lives from a few days to over 30. The more days they are alive, the more eggs they can lay," she said. "If we experience the population explosion in 2007 that we experienced in 2006, we will be able to release to the wild in 2008." The performance of “O Mother Earth, O Father Sky” is just under an hour in length and will be followed by a talk by Prof. Johnson.
