Last year, 916 Moorpark College students transferred to a CSU and 304 transferred to a UC...some with ... but many without... an associate degree.
If students do not complete the associate degree requirements -- and many do not -- they leave Moorpark College without a formal good bye.
This year, President Eva Conrad is going to change that!
The first annual Transfer/Honors Program Ceremony is set for 3 pm on May 15th (graduation day) on the Campus Center Quad.
"It will be a graduation-type ceremony, complete with the Moorpark College’s Chamber Ensemble, a student speaker (the President of the Honors Program Club), and the
introduction of each student as he/she has a moment in the sun on the stage," she says.
Statistics recently received from the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s office reveal that Moorpark College is number one in the state for transfers to the CSU and to the UC based on enrollment, (community colleges with 12,000 to 15,000 students.)
Of the 109 California Community Colleges, Moorpark College is consistently ranked in the top 10 for transfers to the University of California and in the top 20 for transfers to the California State University campuses each year.
More than 1,300 students each year transfer from Moorpark College to a public or private four-year college or university. Although private and out-of-state colleges and universities do not report back to the campus of origin, students have reported to the Transfer Center that they have been accepted to private schools such as: Brigham Young University, Brown University, California Lutheran University, Columbia University, Colorado State University, Cornell University, Harvard University, Iowa State University, Loyola Marymount University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Michigan State University, New York University, Notre Dame College, University of Chicago, University of Hawaii, University of Massachusetts and the University of Southern California.
A contributing factor to Moorpark’s high California state transfer rate is that college officials have established transfer guarantees with many institutions. Moorpark College students who successfully complete transfer pathways are guaranteed admission to many schools including: the University of California- at Davis, Irvine, Los Angeles, Riverside, Santa Barbara, and Santa Cruz; and to the California State University- at Channel Islands, Northridge, Sonoma, and San Bernardino. And students can apply for transfer to any UC, CSU or independent university of their choice after completing 56-60 units at Moorpark College.
And Moorpark has a comprehensive Career/Transfer Center which is open Monday through Friday in the Administration Building and provides transfer planning, individual meetings with college and university admissions representatives, college and university campus tours, as well as transfer application and financial aid workshops. More information is on the web at www.moorparkcollege.edu/transfer.
Any student who is transferring can participate and be honored by contacting the Career/Transfer Center at (805) 378-1536.
NOTE: Enrollment-based transfer charts are included with this release as attachments.
