AUDITIONS FOR BROADWAY MUSICAL “CHICAGO” AT MOORPARK COLLEGE
Moorpark College Theatre Arts, Music, and Dance Departments are proud to announce auditions for their Spring 2012 production of the classic Broadway musical “Chicago.” Vocal auditions will be held on Friday, December 9, from 2-6 p.m., dance auditions Saturday, December 10, from 1-4 p.m., with callbacks on Monday, December 12, from 6-11 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center, 7075 Campus Drive, Moorpark. There will be parts available for singers, dancers, and actors. Every performer should prepare a one-minute, up-tempo song. An accompanist will be provided, and performers should dress appropriately for the dance audition. “Chicago,” set in the roaring twenties, is a sensuous tale of sin, corruption and all that jazz. It has everything that makes Broadway great: knockout dancing and a ripped-from-the-headlines story about Roxie Hart, an ambitious chorus girl, who murders her lover and convinces her gullible husband to take the rap. Ultimately, Roxie goes to jail and joins another famous stage performer and murderess, Velma Kelly. Both women are headline hunters seeking to capitalize on pre-trial publicity as they turn to their tricky lawyer, Billy Flynn, to free them from jail and make them famous through one show-stopping song after another. This production will be directed by Theatre Arts instructor, John Loprieno, with musical direction provided by Music instructor, Marilyn Anderson, and choreographed by Dance instructor, Beth Megill. According to Loprieno, “This production will be a full-court press by our entire Performing Arts Center team. Every two years, we do a large scale musical that embraces all of the performing arts at Moorpark College. 'Chicago' is a perfect production to challenge the combined talents of our students in all three programs." “Chicago” will be produced March 29-April 15, 2012. Moorpark Theatre Arts productions require that all cast members be enrolled in one or more classes for the Spring 2012 semester.
