The Child Development Laboratory program is nationally accredited and offers an exemplary early care and education experience for children aged two through five years. The program enhances children’s intellectual, social, emotional, and physical development. Half-day morning and afternoon program options are available for students, staff, and community families, as well as a parent-toddler program for 18-30 month olds. The program is located on campus and licensed by the State of California for childcare needs while providing a laboratory experience for students majoring in Child Development. Central to the College Mission in four-year university transfer and career education, the Child Development Lab serves as an internship and observation site for degree-seeking students in the Child Development program.
The program currently serves 117 children in the preschool and parent-toddler classes and is a practicum and observation site for 357 enrolled Child Development majors, as well as for students from other campus departments such as Sociology, Psychology, and Natural Science. The Child Development Center is open from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and Friday 8 a.m.-1 p.m. The laboratory provides flexible hours for students to complete practicum and observation work around their work and school schedule. |
