SWAN DAY AT MOORPARK COLLEGE
Moorpark College will celebrate SWAN Day with a multi-arts event on March 24, 2010. SWAN stands for Support Women Artists Now, and SWAN Day is an international movement aimed at bringing attention to the work and work-life of women in the arts (learn more at http://www.womenarts.org/swan ). It is celebrated during the last week of March as part of Women’s History Month.
Moorpark College will recognize its own fine and performing artists on March 24 with two core events: an “Art Walk” outside the Performing Arts building from 11:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. featuring the work of faculty artists, and a multi-arts performance with the dance and musical talents of Moorpark College students and featuring guest artist, writer Michele Serros. The performance begins at 1:30 p.m. in Performing Arts 100. It is free and open to the public.
Michele Serros is author of Chicana Falsa, Honey Blonde Chica, Scandalosa!, and How to Be a Chicana Role Model. Newsweek called her "One of the Top Young Women to Watch for in the New Century." Serros grew up in Oxnard, California, and is still local to the Ventura County area.
This event is supported by Moorpark College’s Year of Service as a way of recognizing the human value of art in our society calling for support of the artists who create it. |
