MOORPARK COLLEGE HOSTS SERVICE FAIR TO
CONNECT STUDENTS TO THEIR COMMUNITY AND WORLD
Moorpark College has dedicated the 2009–2010 academic year to being a Year of Service. Through the Year of Service, the college aims to:
- Recognize service demonstrated by students and employees of the college;
- Provide opportunities for volunteer service to the local community, to the nation, and to the world; and
- Encourage an attitude of service -- an approach to life that integrates understanding, caring, and taking action -- that carries on in the lives of our campus community beyond this single year.
We hope these goals will initiate the contribution from Moorpark College of one million hours of volunteer service by 2015 (the culminating date of the United Nations Millennial Goals). To reach that goal and to support the Year of Service aims, Moorpark College will host a Service Fair on Thursday, February 25, from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Non-profit and volunteer organizations are invited to host a table at this fair at no cost to their organizations and educate our campus community about their organizations. Moorpark College hopes that organizations will share any volunteer opportunities with students and encourage all attendees to volunteer on a regular basis during this year and into the future. Some organizations will present their work and vision during ongoing and rotating 10-minute mini-lectures throughout the day.
In addition to the service information, the Service Fair event will feature Guest Speaker, John Sherman, who will host a conversation about Fearlessness and Compassion, at 11:30 a.m. in the Performing Arts building, room 100. The day’s activities will culminate in an art opening and reception for “The Next Generation of Regeneration,” an art show including the work of art department faculty. The reception will be held in the Moorpark College Gallery (Administration building).
