Moorpark College’s 40th Anniversary Reunion is set for Saturday, April 19th, from 2-5 pm in the Performing Arts Center. More than 200 retired staff and faculty plan to attend to see historical exhibits, view program videos, be entertained by current Performing Arts students and hear highlights of 40 years of Raider athletics. The event is free to all current and past students, staff and faculty and administration. Refreshments will be served. RSVP to mcfoundation@vcccd.edu or call (805) 378-1431.
Moorpark’s first President Dr. John Collins will attend and will record video memories at the event. Collins served from 1966 to 1971. He came to Moorpark one year prior opening to do the planning and oversee construction.
Moorpark opened in September of 1967, with about 1400 students at a time of cultural change, highlighted by the hippie, antiwar and environmental movements.
First year faculty member Al Nordquist who helped organized the reunion said, “Dr. Collins hired us to be innovators to teach in a climate of change, openness and to encourage students to learn along with us.”
First year cheerleader Judy Aronson, Simi Valley, who will also attend the event said, “They (the faculty) wanted us to be thinkers and to question why we were doing something.”
