After many years of planning, a construction contract has been awarded and the groundbreaking ceremony for the Moorpark College Health Sciences Center was Tuesday, September 23, 3 p.m. at the construction site accessible through Parking Lots C or S.
The two-story, 42,690 sq.ft., Health Science building will replace and augment the existing deteriorating Health Science modular complex that has served as home for the Nursing and Radiology Technology programs for over 30 years. The new building is partially funded from Measure S local bond funds ($17.7M) and State Bond funds ($10.4M). The first floor will house most of the Health Science instructional/lab space and offices for 14 faculty members, along with a department office and work room stations. The second floor will provide supplemental instruction/lab space for Anatomy, Biotechnology, and other natural sciences. Occupancy is scheduled for the Fall 2010 semester.
Moorpark College President Pam Eddinger presided over the groundbreaking, offering a welcome and introductions, to nearly 100 guests including special guests VCCCD Trustees Larry Miller, Bob Huber, Cheryl Heitman and Stephen Blum, VCCCD Chancellor James Meznek and Moorpark City Councilman Mark Van Dam.
