The Moorpark College Commencement is 5:30 p.m., Thursday, May 21, in the Campus Center Quad. Moorpark College President Dr. Pam Eddinger will be the official host welcoming all the graduates, their families and friends, and distinguished guests to the event. This is Dr. Eddinger’s first commencement since becoming president in July 2008. California State University Channel Islands President Dr. Richard R. Rush will be the commencement speaker.
Dignitaries attending the event include Ventura County Community College District Chancellor Dr. James Meznek, and members of the VCCCD Board of Trustees: Robert Huber, Chair, Stephen P. Blum, Esq., Vice Chair, Cheryl Heitmann, Arturo D. Hernández, Dr. Larry Miller, and Student Trustee Donna Valle.
Moorpark College’s 2008-09 Distinguished Faculty Member Ranford Hopkins will deliver the “meditative thoughts.”
The “student address” will be made by Sara Yakhi, president, Moorpark College Associated Students.
Trustee Huber will deliver congratulations from VCCCD Board.
The 2007-08 Professor of the Year Cynthia Barnett will read the names of the graduates as they walk up to get their diplomas.
Of the more than 1200 students who earned their degrees during this academic year, more than 300 will take part in the ceremony. The 2008/09 graduating class consists of 1,230 students -- 708 females and 522 males. Current semester candidates for graduation number 715, with 276 having already graduated in the fall. Students who graduated at the end of the summer session in 2008 numbered 239.
Two hundred ninety-six students from the 2008/09 graduating class have cumulative GPAs of 3.5 or higher including 23 students with 4.00 GPAs. They are:

Ninety-three students earned more than one degree with 44 of those students earning three or more degrees. Most of the graduates earned either an associate of arts or science degree in majors such as general liberal arts and science, business, accounting, biology, nursing, radio/television, criminal justice, and wildlife management. Ninety-eight students earned 201 certificates in career technical programs such as animal training, business, child development, interior design, nursing, and radiologic technology.
