Moorpark College and St. John’s Hospitals Graduate
Third Class of Partners in Caring Program’s Nurses
Seven employees of St. John’s Regional Medical Center and St. John’s Pleasant Valley Hospital will be the third graduates in the Partners in Caring Program, a joint collaboration between Moorpark College and St. John’s. The eight graduates will receive their Associate Degree in Nursing through the Moorpark College Nursing Program during a ceremony on Friday, July 27, 2007 at Moorpark College. The graduates completed their full-time studies in a 15-month period while working part-time at St. John’s. Educational offerings were sponsored by St. John’s Regional Medical and St. John’s Pleasant Valley Hospital.
The Partners in Caring Program was modeled after the Paradigm Program in Fresno and was designed to meet the severe hospital nursing shortage. The program enables St. John’s employees who meet nursing program admission requirements, to begin an accelerated program, earning a Registered Nursing degree in 15 months versus the standard 24 months.
The Associate Degree in Nursing will allow the graduates to take the National Council Licensing Examination for Registered Nurses known as NCLEX-RN. Upon successful completion of their licensing examination, the graduates will be employed as registered nurses at St. John’s.
The following students are the second to complete this accelerated program:
Morgaine Daniels
Tomas Gallegos
Nicole Laing
Victoria Perez
Janet White
Leslie Zavala
Garrett Fletcher
”The students represent a diverse group of motivated individuals who have sacrificed and worked hard to make their dream of a nursing career a reality,” said Dr. Kim Hoffmans, Moorpark College Nursing Coordinator. “Strong support from their families, classmates, and hospital and college administration has helped the students to accomplish their goals in a very short period of time.”
A fourth class of Partners in Caring Students began this summer. Anyone interested in receiving additional information on the program can contact Marilyn Samuel at St. John’s Regional Medical Center at (805) 988-2500, or a Health Science Counselor at Moorpark College at (805) 378-1428. |
