A new partnership between Moorpark College and the
Museum of Ventura County will offer students research opportunities.
History Professor Patty Colman has been selected
as the new editor of the Journal of Ventura County History, published by the
Museum of Ventura County.
“Published for the last 53 years as The
Quarterly, The Journal is entering a new
era as it becomes a joint venture with
Moorpark College,” said Susan Gerrard of
the Museum of Ventura County.
The premier issue authored
by Cherie Brant and published in May focused
on the growth of the city of Ventura
in the 19th century made visible through
a series of bird’s eye view lithographs.
The next issue will feature Simi Valley.
In the Fall, Colman will teach a History
M80 class that involves students in the editing,
researching, fact checking and design of The Journal.
“In any business or organization, an employee
can be tasked with gathering data,
synthesizing information, and writing a
report. This is essentially what a student
of history must do when given a topic to
research,” Colman says. “One of the most
important lessons a college graduate must
learn is that they don’t have to know the
answer to everything as long as they know
HOW to find the answer.”
