The Art Gallery at Moorpark College will present two solo exhibitions of recent works by Los Angeles artist Nicole Duet and Bay Area artist Jennifer Brandon. The exhibitions will open on September 22 and continue through October 17, 2008. A reception for the artists will be held at the gallery on Wednesday, October 8, from 1:00p.m. until 3:00p.m.
In LIMINAL, Nicole Duet grapples with the instability of perception and the resulting challenge of knowing the self, the world, and others. Her gorgeous paintings posit moments where an underlying pulse of possibility hovers at the edges of what we immediately recognize.
Jennifer Brandon's RAVEL presents images—painted, still and moving—as they become undone, separated, and complicated by experience in time. The vulnerabilities of these images are held up for examination, where one might see the mutability inherent in the act of remembering and the decay of the physical over time.
Nicole Duet received her MFA from California State University, Long Beach in 2007. Her work has been exhibited nationally, and has been reviewed by publications such as Artweek and The Los Angeles Times. Jennifer Brandon received her MFA from Mills College in 2007. Her work has been has been shown throughout Los Angeles and the Bay Area, including The San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art.
