“Merrily We Roll Along"- the time-traveling Sondheim musical- is a hit.
It opened July 17 and continues in the intimate Studio Theatre through August 3.
Merrily is the story of three successful Broadway and Holloywood types looking back on their lost friendship.This heartfelt show poses the question “How did we get from here to there?” and strives to answer it for three friends reflecting on years of aspiration and reality, relationships both sweet and sour, and dreams fulfilled and unfulfilled.
“Merrily" offers wit, humor and intensity in a New York City setting. This production is a serious musical that is sure entertain even as it inspires discussions on the perils of getting what we wish for. It features classic Sondheim music with ballads that will warm your heart and up tempo numbers that will have you tapping your toes in the theatre.
“We have an incredible cast for this Summer’s show,” said John Loprieno, director and full-time Theatre Arts Faculty member. “We’re setting this powerful musical in the round in our Studio theatre and the energy of this young cast is going to explode off the stage.” The cast includes Moorpark College students and students from area high schools. “We’re structuring our Summer Arts program so that it offers productions later in the summer so we can have as many High School students as possible involved,” said Loprieno. “It’s becoming an incredible outreach for all of our Performing Arts programs.” The show continues July 18, 19, 24, 25, 26 31and August 1 and 2 at 8:00pm and July 20, 27 and July 20, 27 and August 3 at 2:00pm..
