Global Access Media, a nonprofit 501c3 media company, presents an information and fundraising event to support the development and production of The Iraq Peace and Reconciliation College Tour,a groundbreaking peace mission designed to build new and lasting relationships between American and Iraqi university students.
Launching in Spring 2010 at Harvard University, each event of the nationwide college tour will include a screening of the documentary, "The Road to Fallujah" (www.theroadtofallujah.com), a film that is designed to encourage an informed and compassionate dialogue, followed by a live videoconference between American and Iraqi students. These unprecedented and unscripted conversations between the next generation of leaders of our two countries will be webcast live to an international audience. These events will act as a launch point for students to grow their relationships and develop their own joint organizations and projects for peace.
This one-time event will include A Presentation by Mark Manning, Co-founder of Global Access Media and Director of "The Road to Fallujah." Mark has the unique experience of being the only western civilian to live with the people of Fallujah, Iraq, immediately following the 2004 battle that destroyed their ancient city. Mark will present an audio-visual presentation detailing the events that led to the development of The Iraq Peace & Reconciliation Tour, including his work as a journalist conducting hundreds of interviews about U.S. policies on war and terror, covering peace talks in the Middle East, living with the refugees of Fallujah and covering the war from the perspective of the Iraqi people, and co-founding a joint Iraqi-American relief agency that became the only organization providing aid to civilians living in combat zones during the worst fighting of the Iraq war. Come hear Mark's personal account of the people and events that shaped this compelling journey, including film clips from three of his acclaimed documentaries filmed during his travels, and a presentation on this exciting new student leadership peace project. "In a place the American media dubbed "infested with terrorists" and the Arab media used as an example of U.S. atrocities, I found that the hope lies in the voices of the people, and the realization of our common humanity."
Admission to the event is free. The goal is to raise awareness and funds. We are simply asking others to get inspired and involved in the way that works best for them. Donations can be made at the event or online at www.globalaccessmedia.org. Fund the tour and gain co-producer/co-branding status through a large donation, grant, or endowment. Help spread community awareness and take the presentation to other potential funders. This event is co-sponsored by Global Access Media (www.globalaccessmedia.org) and the Moorpark College Year of Service.
