Featuring choreography of Faculty Members Beth Megill, Robert Salas, Vivian Goldes, Nancy Paradis, and selected student choreographers Ryan Schultze and Kayla Shapiro. Also included in the performance will be members from the Moopork College poets group and LA contemporary dance company RhetOrical.
The Show features a mix of dance styles including Modern, Ballet, Jazz, Tap, and Bollywood! Director Megill states, “Speaking Movement is less about the genre of a dance and more about the meaning of a dance. Dance speaks to me, and I think it ‘speaks’ to others as well. Dance is an art of the people for the people, telling personal stories of heartbreak, joy, anger, or frustration, as well as making social commentary about who we are in the community and world. Each choreographer has a different vision and therefore a different aesthetic goal to meet his or her vision. I hope the show ends up to be a kaleidoscope of the dance experience, with a little bit for each audience member to take with them as they leave the theater.“
Don’t miss this powerful and entertaining dance concert. The dancers and choreographers have opened their hearts to share their passion for dance with you. Some pieces will challenge the audience to see dance in a new way, to appreciate something that may not be what is expected from dance entertainment. Other pieces ask the audience to look deeper into the meaning behind the dance and how that meaning plays out in their own lives.
We hope to see you there to celebrate the art of dance at Moorpark College!
