Nearly 300 students will attend the annual Moorpark College Commencement at 5:30 p.m., May 17, on the Campus Center Quad. Their ages range from 18 to 60. The youngest graduates (those under 21) have usually taken advantage of concurrent enrolment, (earning college credits while still in high school or while being hone schooled.)Very often our older graduates are what the college terms "returning adult" students, (those who have put off their higher education off for years or decades.)
The 2006/07 graduating class actually consists of 1,170 students; 627 females and 543 males. Current semester graduates number 706, with 276 having already graduated in the fall. One hundred and eighty eight students graduated at the end of the summer session in 2006. Two hundred and forty eight students from the 2006/07 graduating class have GPAs of 3.5 or higher. One hundred and three students earned more than one degree with 43 of those students earning three or more degrees. Most of the graduates earned an associate of arts or science degree in majors such as general liberal arts and science, business, accounting, biology, radio/television, and criminal justice. Thirty- three students graduated in nursing and 37 graduated from the exotic animal training and management program. Nursing students take the Board of Registered Nursing licensing exam and then typically go right to work, although they can also go on for a bachelors or masters in nursing .
EATM graduates find it very easy to find immediate employment 37 however a number typically go on to university for advanced degrees.
Eighty six graduates earned certificates of achievement in occupational programs such as business information systems, child development, compute networking, graphic communication, interior design and multimedia.
Moorpark College has an enrollment of 14,500 students per semester. To serve those students, the college offers 1,500 day and evening, weekend, online and off-campus courses in 100 majors each semester. Summer sessions run in May and June, will all summer classes ending August 8th.
