| For the second consecutive year, four biology instructors are offering a biotech workshop series for high school science teachers as part of a continuing education program. The high school teachers will learn how to conduct simple biotech experiments in the classroom and how to integrate information about the biotech industry them into their curriculum.
Subhash Karkare, Marie Panec, Paul Kores and Mary Rees worked with 30 teachers from 14 schools throughout Ventura County last year. A similarly sized group is set to take part in the series that runs on Saturdays from March 21 to May 2 this year.
The instructors say the workshops help strengthen both the college’s biotech program and the quality of local high school science.
"Hands-on experience is the best way to generate enthusiasm toward an exciting career in biotechnology or bioengineering,” Rees said.
