Bridging Dance Departments: CSUCI and Moorpark College
Moorpark, CA (October 12, 2007) - The Dance Department at Moorpark College presents its Fall dance concert, Random Thoughts Faculty Dance Concert, a showcase of original works by faculty choreographers, guest artists and select students on October 19 and 20 at 8:00pm and October 21 at 2:00pm. Featured guests will be Backhausdance, a dance company of extraordinary vision directed by Jennifer Backhaus, and the CSUCI Dance Ensemble directed by Carinne Bach.
“We are excited to be the first in our performing arts departments to extend this bridge between our departments and colleges,” said Robert Salas, Co-Director of Dance at Moorpark College. The Performing Arts Divisions at Moorpark College and California State University, Channel Islands have been hosting meetings to discuss the possibility of bridging our departments. CSUCI is a relatively young University which is in the process of building venues for their performing arts majors. Carinne Bach and Robert Salas are proud to be the first to venture forward in what we hope will be an ongoing relationship between our two Colleges.
“We invite our communities to share in this accomplishment and to enjoy an evening of eclectic dance and experience first-hand the vitality and importance of dance,” In addition to Backhausdance and CSUCI Dance Ensemble we will be featuring two of our student choreographers who distinguished themselves last semester. The student choreographers presenting works for Random Thoughts are Alyssa Belden and Kristin Rice. Faculty choreographers include Wendi Baity, Denise Gibson, Vivian Goldes, Beth Megill, Sandi Patterson and Robert Salas.
