International Students Talk about Democracy
Organizers for the Year of Democracy at Moorpark College are hosting two events January 26 to begin the semester's dialogue on the topic of demiocaracy.
Moorpark College enrolls more than 100 international students every semester. A group of them will be part of a discussion on Democracy Around the World at 10 am Jan. 26 in the Campus Center Conference Room.
That evening, professors John Loprieno and Jack McGee will star in the Cold War drama A WALK IN THE WOODS.
at 6 pm in the Performing Arts Center.
A WALK IN THE WOODS, by Lee Blessing, was nominated for the Tony Award and the Pulitzer Prize in 1988. It tells the story of two Cold War diplomats, Andrey Botvinnick and John Honeyman, who take a walk in the woods of Geneva to talk together as men, rather than as adversarial negotiators.
Loprieno plays John Honeyman.
Loprieno is an award winning writer, director and producer whose credits include TELL ME MY SECRETS, which earned him the 2004 Los Angeles Valley Theater League Award for Best Director/Writer of an original drama. He has written scripts for GENERAL HOSPITAL and ALL MY CHILDREN, and was nominated for an Emmy Award for his writing on ONE LIFE TO LIVE
John played “Cord Roberts” on ABC's daytime drama series ONE LIFE TO LIVE for 13 years. He had roles in the film DEATH OF A PRESIDENT and the television productions ER, SABRINA: THE TEENAGE WITCH, STAR TREK: VOYAGER, CHRISTY, SWAMP THING and AS THE WORLD TURNS. Since 2007 John has been a fulltime theatre department faculty member at Moorpark College since 2006.
McGee plays Andrey Botvinnik. McGee has performed as principal cast member in more than 50 stage plays in New York and California, He starred as Zuss, in Moorpark College’s production of JB in 2007. He had lead roles in MR. ROBERTS; WAIT UNTIL DARK, THAT CHAMPIONSHIP SEASON AND THE ANDERSONVILLE TRIAL, He played roles several times in the TV series THE POWER RANGERS and has appeared in many commercials. Since 2002, he has been an adjunct English department faculty member at Moorpark College.
The evening begins with a with a hosted reception.
The event is free and open to the public.
