“CHICAGO- The Musical”
BRINGS ALL THAT JAZZ TO MOORPARK COLLEGE
Moorpark College Theatre Arts, Music, and Dance Departments are proud to announce their spring 2012 production of the classic Broadway hit, “Chicago - The Musical.” This classic American musical will run Thursday to Saturday evenings, with three Sunday matinees from March 29 through April 15 in the Moorpark College Performing Arts Center.
“Chicago,” set in the roaring twenties, is a sensuous tale of sin, corruption, and all that jazz. It has everything that makes Broadway great: knockout dancing and a ripped-from-the-headlines story about Roxie Hart, an ambitious chorus girl, who murders her lover and convinces her gullible husband to take the rap. Ultimately, Roxie goes to jail and joins another famous stage performer and murderess, Velma Kelly. Both women are headline hunters seeking to capitalize on pre-trial publicity as they turn to their tricky lawyer, Billy Flynn, to free them from jail and make them stars.
“Chicago - The Musical” is the recipient of six Tony Awards, two Olivier Awards, a Grammy, and thousands of standing ovations world-wide. If you loved the Academy Award-winning film, nothing beats the live show! Production will be directed by Theatre Arts Chairman, John Loprieno, with musical direction provided by Music instructor, Marilyn Anderson, and choreographed by Dance instructor, Beth Megill. According to Loprieno, “After having the largest turnout we’ve ever seen for auditions, I knew that this was going to be a blockbuster. The caliber of singers, dancers, and actors at Moorpark College has been getting better every year. And ‘Chicago’ is a perfect production to challenge the combined talents of our students in all three performing arts programs. This one is going to be BIG!”
“Chicago- The Musical” opens at the Moorpark College Performing Arts Center and runs Thursday through Saturday evenings at 8:00 p.m. March 29-April 14, with three matinees at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 1, Saturday, April 7, and Sunday, April 15.
