Biotechnology has a huge presence in Ventura County. Almost half of US biotechnology firms are in California.
"Moorpark's program is one of only three Industrial Manufacturing Biotechnology
Programs in the state, ” says biotech department chair Marie Panec.
Moorpark offers two certificate programs to provide the technical background and experience for students looking for entry level jobs. The one-year manufacturing operator's certificate is geared towards students with a limited science background looking for basic skills industrial manufacturing of biologics. The two-year biotechnology certificate is provides a stronger background in science for students who want more advanced technical skills in biotechnology. Students with degrees in biology but lacking the
hands on experience required for this
exciting field are ideal candidates for the two-year certificate. Such students would be able to complete the two-certificate with one year of concentrated effort. Individuals currently working in the industry can select courses on specific topics to improve their technical skills and apply for higher level jobs within their company.
