| Journalism Professor Joanna Miller received the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence at the Board of Trustees meeting on October 9. Miller is the first recipient of the newly-created Chancellor’s Award for Excellence. “This award recognizes individuals who have consistently demonstrated exceptional achievement,” said Dr. James Meznek, Chancellor of Ventura County Community College District. “Ms. Miller personifies professional excellence and serves as a role model for others in higher education.” Individuals earning the Chancellor’s Award are given an honorary plaque and a $1,000 check as a gesture of appreciation for their outstanding service.
Miller has been teaching journalism and other media-related courses at Moorpark College since 2004. She plays a pivotal role as faculty advisor to the district-wide student newspaper, Student Voice, serving students of Moorpark, Oxnard, and Ventura colleges. This past March, Student Voice received six awards at a statewide journalism conference in a competition involving 45 community colleges. |
