The Forensics team captured the state community college championship this weekend at the tournament held in Woodland Hills. Moorpark won with 342.5 points followed by Orange Coast College in 2nd with 275 points. Longtime coach Rolland Petrello says the Moorpark team scored more points than anyone ever has at a state championship.
“I would say it was a record but I can only be confident about the past 20 years” Petrello said.
Highlighting the team’s victory was Justin Harris winning the award for Outstanding Speaker in the State by winning four gold medals. All 16 team members won medals in the competition: Maria Bastasch, Annie Block Weiss, Emma Buel, Erin Cariker, Jacob Crooks, Tiffanie Daniels, Amy Fram, Joe Laughon, Scott Leonard, Chris Maciel, Tara Malenfant, Megan Rayzor, Eric Smith, Ebony Taylor, and Dallas Wells.
The team will be presenting the annual fundraising showcase Night Before Nationals April , 7:30 pm, before leaving for the national championships in Portland, Oregon, April 3.
