MOORPARK COLLEGE STUDENTS ORIGINAL ONE ACT PLAYS TO PERFORM AT HIGH STREET ARTS CENTER
Moorpark College Theatre Arts and the High Street Arts Center are proud to announce a co-production of an evening of original One Act plays written and directed by Moorpark College students. The evening of original work will feature four original plays January 7-16, 2011 (Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m., Sunday at 2 p.m.) at the High Street Arts Center, 45 East High Street in Moorpark. General admission is $10; students $8. Tickets can be purchased at the High Street Arts Center box office or by calling (805) 529-8700. Due to mature themes and language in the plays, some content may not be suitable for all audiences.
The four plays were chosen by Ken Rayzor, General Manager, High Street Arts Center, from the 11 original plays that were presented at Moorpark College in December 2010. The plays include:
“My Heart is Yours,” written and directed by Melissa Armstrong, is a charming romantic comedy that follows a guy who is desperately in love with his sister's best friend and cannot seem to get out of the "friend zone."
“Con-FEAR-acy,” written and directed by Tyler Bianchi, is a socially relevant dark comedy that utilizes scorching political satire to illustrate a futuristic America that has given into fear.
“Stasis," written by Kelce Casey and directed by Brian Bujanda, is a comic morality play that follows the intertwined destinies of a man and his duck and its effect on the environment.
"Bar Psychology," written and directed by Jeremy Hanes, is a psychological study of a man who is struggling with his marriage, his values, and his own identity.
“After the success of our last collaboration on the musical, ‘I Do, I Do,’ I was thrilled when Ken asked us to bring these original works to the High Street Arts Center stage,” said Theatre Arts Department Chair, John Loprieno. “By allowing our students to bring these plays to High Street, the City of Moorpark is giving them tremendous exposure and an opportunity for their work to be seen on a larger scale.”
