| The summer hit comedy "Nice People Dancing to Good Country Music" presented by an ensemble cast of Moorpark College students has been carried over to fall. Lee Blessing’s rip-roaring love story ran for the month of July in the intimate Studio Theatre. Because the college was closed Friday through Sunday over the summer attendance was slightly off for the Monday-Thursday performances. Reviews were so good that director John Loprieno couldn’t let the show close without taking advantage of typically larger weekend audiences. “It's a rare opportunity to see the our students in action this early in the semester,” he said
The show will be reprised September 10, 11, 12, 17, 18, 19 at 8:00 pm with matinees September 13 and 20 at 2:00pm.
This heart-warming comedy balances the struggles of running a bar in Houston while navigating the pit-falls of a blended family. Eva June has left her husband in Minnesota to run a bar in Texas with Jim. But Jim gets more than he bargained for when Jason, Eva June's 15 year-old son, and Catherine, Eva's niece who has recently been sent on "retreat," come to visit for the summer. Add to the mix Roy, the amorous local cowboy determined to get a dance with Catherine "even if she is an ex-nun," and you've got a hilarious situation. "This show has a little something for everyone," says Loprieno, "slap-stick comedy, a budding romance between an ex-nun and a young cowboy and, of course, nice people dancing.”
