Grant Buys State-of-the-Art Equipment for Enhanced Student Learning
Moorpark College receives more than $180,000 annually from the federal CTEA grant to support various needs of Career Technical Education programs at the college. The Theatre Department recently purchased a portable audio workstation using this funding. The equipment included computers, software and microphones used for joint ventures with the Film, Television and Media program.
“These joint projects encourage students to participate in both programs and improve the technical skills of all who have been participating,” said instructor John Loprieno. “These activities present the same challenges that are encountered in joint ventures in the entertainment industry.”
This summer the Theatre Arts program is mounting a co-production of the musical “I Do, I Do!” with The High Street Arts Center. The technical theatre students are designing the lighting and audio components of this production using the equipment purchased with CTEA funds and industry professionals are taking notice of their work.
“The hands-on experience with the equipment and software purchased through CTEA funding has been critical in preparing students for this joint venture, which, for some, can be a direct pathway into the entertainment industry,” Loprieno said.
