Moorpark College Basketball Coaches Make Fashion Statement for American Cancer Society “Suits and Sneakers” and “Pink Zone” Game February 16
"Suits and Sneakers" and "Pink Zone," a collaborative initiative of the Men's and Women's California Community College Basketball Coaches and the American Cancer Society, is slated for Moorpark College home games on February 16 at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Participating men's and women's basketball coaches include Coach Remy McCarthy and Coach Lindsay Goldblatt and their staff. The coaches will wear sneakers instead of dress shoes and pink as their game attire to demonstrate support for the American Cancer Society and the fight against cancer. Fans also are encouraged to wear sneakers and pink to the event. Various fundraising activities are scheduled for that evening.
The Men's and Women's California Community College Basketball Coaches are conducting a statewide effort to raise awareness and funds at various games throughout the season to fight cancer. Those funds will be pooled and donated to the American Cancer Society at the State Championships to be held in Ventura on March 11-13, 2011.
"The Coaches versus Cancer program is a vital, year-round link between the American Cancer Society and the California Community College Basketball Coaches that empowers basketball coaches, their teams, and communities to join the fight against cancer," said Jim Satalin, Director of the Coaches versus Cancer program with the American Cancer Society. “The program draws from the personal experiences, community leadership, and the professional excellence of coaches statewide to increase public awareness of the Society’s mission to save lives and prevent cancer, and to raise funds to fight the disease on a variety of fronts.”
"Two of our former players in the last eight years have battled cancer and won. We are very excited to take part in this great event and do our part to fight this dreadful disease," said Moorpark Men’s Head Coach Remy McCarthy. "We are honored to take part in this event. The team is very excited to help out a great cause and support those and their families who have battled and are currently battling this disease," said Moorpark Women’s Head Coach Lindsay Goldblatt.
Thanks to the dedicated efforts of college and high school coaches across the country, Coaches versus Cancer participants have raised nearly $60 million since 1993 to help the Society save lives by educating and empowering people. The American Cancer Society is dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by saving lives, diminishing suffering, and preventing cancer through research, education, advocacy, and service. |
