The Ventura County Certified Farmers’ Market Association VCCFMA opened at Moorpark College on June 20. More than 250 shoppers visited the market. Most walked over from homes surrounding the college including theatre instructor Kathy Lewis.
“I love the market,” she said. I am already planning what to buy next week!”
Market organizer Karen Schott said she was “very pleased with the turn out.”
The market is Saturdays, rain or shine, 8am to 12 pm, in Parking Lot G1. It is an activity sponsored by the Moorpark College Foundation.
“With the current state budget situation hitting the community college hard, we need another source of support for our students now more than ever,” said Foundation Board Chair Dan Peate, who attended the market with fellow board member Jim Tierney and their families.
Approximately 25 farmers offered produce, eggs, flowers and plants. The Foundation offered a recycled paper hat craft sponsored by the Ventura County Junior Master Gardener’s Program.
Next week's craft for kids is aromatherapy bracelets. The college will offer activities throughout the year including animal and butterfly exhibits from the Zoo, performances by music and drama ensembles, a student ceramics exhibition and sale and Raider football and basketball ticket giveaways.
