Summer/Fall Auditions Set for May 11 Moorpark College Theatre Arts Department auditions for two upcoming shows will be held on May 11 from 3:30 to 6:00pm, with callbacks on Tuesday, May12 from 6:00 to 10:00pm in the Studio Theatre of the Moorpark College Performing Arts Center.
The Summer production will be “Nice People Dancing to Good Country Music” by Lee Blessing. Director John Loprieno describes it as “slap-stick comedy, with a budding romance between an ex-nun and a young cowboy and, of course, nice people dancing.”
According to Loprieno, “It is our goal to turn our summer production into an outreach opportunity to allow local high school students to interact with Moorpark College students and faculty. The Summer program is designed to give students a full-range of experiences in the Theatre Arts including: marketing, set and prop construction, wardrobe, make-up, running crews and, of course, performance.”
The Fall '09 production is Thornton Wilder’s classic play “The Skin of our Teeth” directed by Los Angeles casting director and Moorpark College Theatre Arts instructor Eileen Kennedy. “I was drawn to this play for its relevance to today as a story of man's determination to rebuild his world after disaster. For a comedy, it is surprisingly moving ...and hopeful,” say Kennedy.
Moorpark Theatre arts productions require that all cast members be enrolled in the 3 credit hour course “Theatre Arts M10, Production and Performance” for either the Summer or Fall semesters. The Summer Schedule of Classes is on the web at www.moorparkcollege.edu
