SPEND A LITTLE TIME WITH “SWEET CHARITY” AT MOORPARK COLLEGE
Moorpark College Theatre Arts, Music and Dance Departments are proud to announce their Spring 2010 production of Neil Simon’s hilarious musical comedy, “Sweet Charity.” This classic musical comedy will run from March 12th through March 28th on the main stage of the Performing Arts Center on the campus of Moorpark College.
“Sweet Charity,” based on Federico Fellini's screenplay Nights of Cabiria, was originally choreographed and conceived by Bob Fosse, with music by Cy Coleman. Sweet Charity is a tender, poignant, and consistently funny look at the adventures, or rather the misadventures, in the ways of love encountered by the gullible and guileless lady known as Charity Hope Valentine. Charity is a dance hostess who always gives her heart and her dreams to the wrong man. Broadway standards “Big Spender,” “If They Could See Me Now,” and “The Rhythm of Life” are among the songs in this spirited and fun-filled classic.
This production will be directed by Theatre Arts instructor, John Loprieno, with musical direction provided by Music instructor, Vail Keck, and choreographed by Dance instructor, Beth Megill. The full stage orchestra will be conducted by Vail Keck. According to Loprieno, “This production will be a full-court press by our entire Performing Arts Center team. ‘Sweet Charity’ will be the first show that I’ve directed at Moorpark College with the combined talents of faculty members from Music and Dance. We have over 40 cast members and more than 100 students from six classes that will participate in this huge production.”
“Sweet Charity” runs March 12, 13, 18, 19, 20, 25, 26, 27 at 8:00 p.m. with 2:00 p.m. matinees on March 14, 21, 28. Tickets range from $8.00 for students to $16.00 for adults, with senior and group discounts available. For more information, go to MoorparkCollege.edu/PAC or call the box office at 805.378.1485. |
