Advocating for community college students is a major part of serving on the Moorpark College Associated Students Board of Directors. Students serving on the Board of Directors represent Moorpark College students on campus, within the Ventura County Community College District (VCCCD), and at the state and national levels.
Moorpark College has monthly committee meetings to discuss different aspects of Moorpark College. These committees include faculty, staff, and members of the college administration. Members of the Associated Students Board of Directors also serve on five participatory committees throughout the year as student representatives.

- Facilities CAP**
- Fiscal Planning
- Technology CAP**
**CAP: Committee on Accreditation and Planning
Board members also serve on other committees on campus including the Student Services Council, Multicultural Day Committee, and the Year Of Committee.
Ventura County Community College District
Moorpark College is part of the Ventura County Community College District (VCCCD). Oxnard College and Ventura College are the other two colleges in the VCCCD. The VCCCD is governed by the Board of Trustees, which include five locally elected members, as well as a student trustee who represents all the students in the VCCCD.
Monthly Board of Trustees meetings are usually held on the first Tuesday of the month at the District Office (255 W. Stanley Avenue, Suite 150, Ventura, CA 93001). The Associated Students Director of External Affairs attends the Board of Trustees meeting each month.

There are 112 community colleges in California serving over 2.7 million students. The California Community College Student Affairs Association and Student Senate for California Community Colleges are the two organizations which exist specifically to serve community college students.
California Community College Student Affairs Association
The California Community College Student Affairs Association (CCCSAA) has facilitated networking and leadership opportunities for California community college students, staff, and administrators involved with student affairs and leadership for over 60 years. Every fall CCCSAA holds a student leadership conference for approximately 500 student leaders and advisors from California Community Colleges’ student governments. CCSAA also awards scholarships to student each year.
The Moorpark College Associated Students Board of Directors attends the annual CCCSAA conference to learn ways to effectively serve Moorpark College students.

Student Senate for California Community Colleges
The Student Senate for California Community Colleges (SSCCC) is an organization that strives to assist California community college students by making the collegiate experience as beneficial as possible. The SSCCC as it operates today was established in 2006, but it was formerly known as the California Student Association of Community Colleges (CalSACC). Today, the SSCCC holds a General Assembly every semester where student representatives from each of the California community colleges discuss and vote on resolutions which will affect their peers.
The SSCCC is divided into ten (10) Regions based on geographic location, which were initially established as part of CalSACC. Each Region meets monthly throughout the year to discuss how to better meet the needs of the students in each Region. Two (2) Regional senators are elected at the spring General Assembly. These senators represent their Region at monthly SSCCC meetings in Sacramento. In addition to the two (2) regional senators from each Region, there are also ten (10) senators at large, totaling the 30 members of the SSCCC.
Moorpark College, Oxnard College, and Ventura College are all part of Region VI.
The Moorpark College Associated Students Board of Directors has been active in SSCCC since its formation in 2006. Each semester the MCAS Board of Directors attends the SSCCC General Assembly and the Director of External Affairs attends the monthly Region VI meetings. Additionally, the Board of Directors has made financial contributions to the SSCCC. Several Moorpark College students have gone on to work with the SSCCC after serving on the Associated Students Board of Directors.

Region VI is one of the ten (10) Regions of the Student Senate for California Community Colleges. Region VI is the northern most Region of all the southern Regions with nine (9) colleges from seven (7) districts.
The Region VI schools are:
- Allan Hancock College
- Antelope Valley
- College of the Canyons
- Cuesta Community
- Moorpark College
- Oxnard College
- Santa Barbara City College
- Taft College
- Ventura College
The Region VI Board includes a chair, vice chair, secretary, treasurer, and two (2) regional senators. Region VI meetings are open to the public in accordance with the Brown Act. Tele conference is also available for anyone who does not want to attend the meetings in person.
Over the year Moorpark College students have been very involved in Region VI by participating in Region VI activities and through financial contributions. Students from the Associated Students Board of Directors have also served on the Region VI Board during their term at Moorpark College.
Region VI Meetings are held at Santa Barbara City College on the third Friday of each month at 1:00 p.m. unless otherwise specified. All students attending the nine (9) Region VI schools are invited to attend Region VI meetings and participate in Region VI events.

During the spring semester, the Associated Students Board of Directors travels to Washington D.C. to advocate not only on behalf of Moorpark College students, but for students across America as well, about national issues that affect college students.
March 2016 Moorpark College student government (Associated Students Board of Directors) met with UC congresswomen Julia Brownley's and Senator Feinstein's Senior Policy Directors on Higher Education on Capitol Hill in Washington D.C. and advocated to save Pell Grants and to have student loans be paid with pre-tax dollars.
Students also meet notable consumer advocates , such as Ralph Nader, who guide and teach student leaders their civic responsibility and how to advocate on Capitol Hill.
The D.C. trip is funded by the $1 optional Student Representation Fee, as mandated by the California Education Code Section 76060.5.
