The Child Development Center (CDC) offers an exemplary early care and education experience for children aged 2.5 through 5 years. Affiliated with the college Child Development Department, the Laboratory Preschool serves as a practicum and observation site for members of the Moorpark College community. Half day program options are available for students, faculty, staff, and community families, as well as a Parent and Me programs. Since we are part of the college instructional program, the CDC follows the same school calendar. The Fall semester begins in mid-August and ends with Winter break in December. The Spring semester begins in mid-January and ends in mid-May. We observe the same holiday schedule as the college with a few additional days closed for staff development.
HOW OLD DO CHILDREN HAVE TO BE TO BE ENROLLED IN YOUR PROGRAM?
Children must be 2.5 years of age by the first day of school in order to participate in the program. Children may remain in the program until they enter Kindergarten.WHAT ARE THE QUALIFICATIONS TO GET MY CHILD IN YOUR PROGRAM?
In order to ensure continuity for enrolled children, those families already attending the center have the opportunity to pre-register for the next session before any new children are accepted into the program. Children are selected for enrollment and prioritized for scheduling according to, the date they sign-up for the waiting list, and the sessions that have vacancies (morning or afternoon).
The number of spaces available is contingent on availability of staff.

Preschool classes are mixed-age grouping. There are 18 children to a minimum of 3 adults in each room. In addition, each class will be supported with practicum students, student workers, interns, and volunteers bringing the ratio down to 1:4 on most days.WHAT KIND OF QUALIFICATIONS DO YOUR TEACHERS HAVE?
All Associate Teachers have a minimum of a B.A. and qualify for the State of California Child Development Master Teacher Permit. All Assistant Teachers qualify for the State of California Child Development Teacher Permit. Student workers in the classrooms are all qualified preschool teachers working toward their child development permit and/or AA degree or higher.
DO YOU ACCEPT ‘SPECIAL NEEDS' CHILDREN?
All children are accepted and enrolled into our program following all District, State and Federal guidelines including the most recent Americans with Disabilities Act.
WHAT KINDS OF THINGS DO THE CHILDREN IN THE PRESCHOOL DO DURING THE DAY?
