Moorpark, CA (July 25, 2017) -
Moorpark College is one of 24 community colleges awarded a total of $6 million in CCC Maker Implementation Grants from the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office to develop makerspace communities, student internships and various programs. Moorpark College will receive $250,000 this year, renewable for a second year in the same amount. CCC Maker is one of the initiatives under the state chancellor’s Doing What MATTERS for Jobs and the Economy projects identified on page 11 of Charting New Paths to the Future.

The CCC Maker grant will help Moorpark College and other recipients design maker spaces (alternative learning environments) on or off campus that foster innovation and an enhanced educational experience that prepare students for 21st century skills. To kick-off the first phase of the project, grant awardees will convene in Berkeley, CA, August 17 and 18, to build rapport with college team members and receive direction on moving their plans forward.

"This is a testament to the work being done by our faculty and administrators and their laser-focused leadership on producing quality career and technical education programming," said Moorpark College President Luis Sanchez. "We are excited about receiving this award. It reflects how well the maker concept fits into the Moorpark College pedagogy and the hard work of our Makers committee," added Moorpark College Dean of Mathematics and Physical Sciences Mary Rees.
