January 25 – February 28, 2017

 Reception and Artist Talk

February 1st, 1:00 pm

Applied Arts Building, Room 136

The Moorpark College Art Gallery is pleased to present a solo exhibition by Los Angeles artist Carla Jay Harris.  Raised in a nomadic military lifestyle, Ms. Harris’ work investigates the complex relationship between identity and place.  Her photo-based images seek to capture the psychology of a space (be it public or private) and the physiological impact it has on those that inhabit it.  The work poses questions in relation to race, self-worth, beauty and commerce.  The exhibit at Moorpark College will include new works from her Desert Cotton Series, which are part of a larger body of work titled Inconspicuous Presence/Conspicuous Absence.

Carla Jay Harris received her BS in Commerce and Media Studies from the University of Virginia and her MFA in Studio Art from UCLA. She exhibits her work extensively throughout the US including solo shows at Sonce Alexander and New Wight Galleries in Los Angeles.  Her work has also been featured in group exhibits at the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery, Launch LA, and ArtShare LA.   To learn more about Carla Jay Harris, please visit her website www.carlajayharris.com.
