ACT M01 - 2 Units
Assistive Computer Training
Prerequisite: None
Class Hours: 1 lecture, 3 lab
Evaluates each students needs for special assistive technology required to access a personal computer, and provides training in the appropriate use of that technology, including screen reader, screen enlarger, voice recognition dictation, specialized keyboards and other software and hardware. Individualized work with instructor by arrangement. May require an initial evaluation to determine a students suitability for the course. May be taken two (2) times for credit. Only offered credit/no-credit. Does not apply toward a degree.
ACT M02 - 2 Units
Self-paced Keyboarding
Prerequisite: None
Class Hours: 1 lecture, 3 lab
Teaches the basics of keyboarding (touch typing) to students with special needs who must use assistive technologies to access the keyboard, or who are unable to compete successfully in mainstream keyboarding classes. Instruction is individualized and self-paced. May be taken two (2) times for credit. Only offered credit/no-credit. Does not apply toward a degree.
ACT M04 - 2.5 Units
Basic Computer Skills
Prerequisite: None Class Hours: 2 lecture; 1.5 lab
Introduces basic computer concepts and skills to students who have special needs or require a slower-paced learning environment. Includes using Windows (running programs, managing files, using WordPad, Calculator, Paint, My Computer, Windows Explorer, using multimedia, optimizing performance, and customizing Windows), the Internet, and e-mail. This course is designed for students with little or no computer experience. Requires no initial computer experience. May be taken two (2) times for credit. Does not apply toward a degree.
ACT M05 - 2 units
Basic Word Processing
Introduces essential word processing skills needed for college courses and work settings. Topics include how to create, edit, and format short and longer documents, how to enhance text, use bullets and numbering, and add graphic elements. Explores the use of writing and proofreading tools and assistive technology. This course is designed for students who require a more individualized, slower-paced learning environment.
ACT M06 - 2 units
Speech Recognition Software Training
Teaches the correct use of speech recognition dictation software, such as Dragon NaturallySpeaking, to produce word-processed documents with little or no use of the keyboard. This method is ideal for individuals who have repetitive strain injuries or other physical disabilities that make the use of the traditional keyboard difficult or impossible. May require the evaluation of the instructor to determine suitability for training.

Writing Skills Laboratory
Prerequisite: None
Corequisite: LS M02
Class Hours: 1.5 lab
Introduces computer word processing to develop writing skills. Reviews proofreading tools and assistive technology to enhance the writing process. Provides opportunity to practice and reinforce concepts and strategies taught in LS M02. May be taken two (2) times for credit. Does not apply toward a degree.
LS M04L - 0.5 Unit
Reading Skills Laboratory
Prerequisite: None
Corequisite: LS M04
Class Hours: 1.5 lab
Develops mastery of reading comprehension skills and vocabulary through the use of computer-based instruction. Provides practice and reinforcement of reading strategies taught in LS M04 - Reading and Reasoning. May be taken four (4) times for credit. Does not apply toward a degree.

Computer-Aided Instruction/Learning Skills
Prerequisite: None
Class Hours: 1.5 to 4.5 lab as arranged
Provides opportunity to develop academic skills through the use of computer-based instruction. May be taken four (4) times for credit. Does not apply toward a degree.
