Transfer Essay Workshops FALL 2012
Transfer Essay: Expectations: This is a discussion and critique of sample transfer/admission essays. Students will learn what admissions departments look for and how to write an essay that will catch attention.

- Monday, October 8th 5:00 - 5:30 (note: the "getting started" workshop will immediately follow this workshop from 5:30 - 6pm)

Creating a Topic and Developing Paragraphs (Getting Started on Your Transfer Essay): “I have many ideas, but I don’t know which one will work?” Create a workable topic that will speak clearly about you and that will lead to a fully developed essay. All participants will leave with a thesis statement and topic sentences, or a paragraph to drive the content of their essay.

Refining your Final Draft: Participants will use a consultative process to refine and further develop essays. They will also learn strategies for correcting grammar and punctuation.

Transfer Essay "Jam Session" Covers the elements taught in the other 2 workshops (Expectations plus Topic and Development).

Transfer Essay Faculty Consultations: Moorpark College Faculty from a variety of disciplines will be available for 30 minute consultations on student transfer essay. Space is limited so appointments are required (only 1 appointment per student). Participants should bring drafts of their essays. Dates and times TBA. Students may schedule an appointment for one of these faculty consultations AFTER dates and times are posted in this area. A self-service appointment link will then be provided.
Suggestion for Transfer Applicants: For refining your final draft, we recommend you schedule an individual tutoring appointment.
