Writing Center Tutors
Adrian Carcione
Adrian Lawson Carcione, a writing tutor with a focus on revision and editing, is also Moorpark College student double majoring in Anthropology and Mathematics. Adrian tutors in writing for courses across the curriculum, emphasizing confidence and skill building. Adrian motivates and encourages students: “I like to help students become aware of how they process information and portray it in words, with the goal of simplifying the overall procedure of writing.” Adrian enjoys hiking in the local hills of Simi Valley, practices backyard astronomy, and plays piano in his spare time.
Jessica Delijani
Jessica is currently attending Moorpark College as a Communications major. She joined the Writing Center in January of 2012 after discovering her love for English. She enjoys tutoring students who need help with the analytical and organizational aspects of writing.
Angelisa (Angie) Hoover
Angie Hoover is currently finishing her degree in Communication Disorders and Sciences at California State University Northridge. While attending Moorpark College, she received both the Academic Senate Award and the Sage Writing Award for Research and Critical Thinking. Her specialties include rhetorical structure, clarity, and flow, but she would be happy to help students with any stage of the writing process
Ariel Ostroweicki
Ariel graduated from Moorpark College with her A.A. degree in psychology in June 2012. She has tutored at the Writing Center for more than two years, and while she has a keen eye for the needs of psychology papers, her strengths in English rhetoric and creative writing appear in her own work and in the quality of guidance she provides to students.
Mary Siegel
Mary Siegel is a writing tutor and Supplemental Instruction Coach for ESL. She has attended Moorpark College and CSUN earning her A.A. in general education, her B.A. in English with a TESL certificate, and her M.A. in Linguistics with a specialty in TESOL. When not working with students, Mary can be found reading horror and mystery stories, gardening, or playing with her dogs.
Michele Sperazz
Michele has been with the Moorpark College Teaching and Learning Center since 2009. She has worked with students in the classroom as a supplemental instruction coach (SI), and as a tutor, has helped students write essays for scholarship applications. Michele graduated from Moorpark with an Associate of Arts in Interior Design.
Dan Thomas
Dan began tutoring at the Writing Center in 2007. He also has been a supplemental instruction coach for ENGL M02 courses. He can assist with all stages of the writing process, (including college admission and scholarship essays. He holds a B.A. in English, a California teaching credential, and a M. Ed in Secondary Education. Currently, he is pursuing an M.S. in Genetics.
Bree Valencia
Bree has been a writing tutor since Jan. 2008. She graduated from UCLA. She loves tutoring at the writing center, and can tutor all levels of English. Bree has been an SI coach for Eng M02 since 2009. She is especially passionate about helping students build writing skills in areas of logic, argumentation, and rhetoric… and “I love helping with transfer and scholarship essays.”
William B. Wethington (Ben)
Ben has an A.A. degree, a B.A. in Philosophy, an M.A. in the Philosophy of Religion and Ethics, and an M.A. in Theology. Having written numerous philosophical papers over the years, his strengths are in argument based papers and defending a thesis.
