Q1: What is interlibrary loan?

A1: Interlibrary loan is a service provided by the Moorpark College Library to obtain materials from other institutions which are not available in the Moorpark College Library and the Ventura County Community College District Libraries.

Q2: Who may use interlibrary loan (ILL)

A2: Currently enrolled Moorpark College students, staff and faculty.

Q3: What types of materials are available for interlibrary loan (ILL)?

A3: The only type of materials available for interlibrary loan at this time are regular books which normally circulate in libraries. Please note that some libraries do not lend their new materials. The definition of new materials ranges from one year to five years.

Q4: What types of materials are not available for interlibrary loan (ILL)?

A4: Videos, CDs, books on CDs, reference books, textbooks, books recently published, periodical articles, materials for reserve, or special collections.

Q5: Can I request textbooks through ILL?

A5: No; textbook requests will not be processed. Check the Circulation Desk in the library to see if your textbook is available there.

Q6: Is there a cost to request a book?

A6: There is no charge for borrowing materials from other libraries but there are fees associated with lost and damaged books. Because of budgetary constraints, the library will not subsidize requests from libraries that charge fees for lending their materials. We will attempt to process your request for free.

Q7: How do I request a book through ILL?

A7: It is important that you provide complete information on the item and the source where this information came from (index, bibliography, database, etc.)

(Do not submit multiple requests on one form.)

Q8: How long does it take to get my book through interlibrary loan (ILL)?

A8: It may take up to one month for your book to arrive from the lending library. Be sure to plan accordingly.

Q9: Is there a limit on how many books I can request?

A9: There is a limit of five requests outstanding at a time.

Q10: Can I request books during the winter break or summer?

A10: Ill requests will be processed during Fall and Spring semesters only.

Q11: How will I be notified when my requested book is here?

A11: You will be notified by email.

Q12: Where do I pick up the ILL book?

A12: The requested book will be held for you at the Circulation Desk. Remember to pick it up on time since any delay will result in less borrowing time for you. The loan period begins on the date the book arrives at Moorpark College.

Q13: Can I renew the book?

A13: The lending libraries determine the loan period regarding use of their materials and the renewal period if allowed.
