Timeline leading up to Graduation

  • March 2019: Deadline to apply for your degree or certificate with the Moorpark College Counseling Office. Students may apply for their degree in-person by visiting the Counseling Office in Fountain Hall, or they can submit a graduation application online.
  • April 2019: Graduation regalia packages (gown, cap, tassel, and diploma cover) are available for purchase in the MC Bookstore.
  • May 17, 2019 (Friday): Graduation Day!
    • 10:00 a.m.: Students may participate in an optional Graduation ceremony rehearsal to have any last-minute questions answered. No RSVP for the rehearsal is required, and the rehearsal will last approximately an hour.
    • 4:15 p.m.: Graduates should begin arriving to campus. Those walking in the ceremony are asked to convene in the Cafeteria, located in the Campus Center (near the quad where the ceremony will be taking place). Only MC staff and students walking in the ceremony allowed in the Cafeteria at this time. All graduates are expected to have arrived in the Cafeteria by 4:30 p.m. at the latest. All students need to fill out a graduation name card so their name can be announced during graduation.
    • 4:30 p.m.: Graduates receive final instruction from the Student Activities Specialist. Announcements will be made inside the Cafeteria, where all graduates should be gathered.
    • 4:45 p.m.: Students begin to line up for the processional at the designated marker outside of the Cafeteria.
    • 5:00 p.m.: The processional begins! Students are led by graduating members of the Associated Students of Moorpark College Board of Directors, and then followed by the administrators, faculty, and staff processional!

What happens during the ceremony?

  1. Student processional (walking into the ceremony and sitting in graduates' designated seats) begins, followed by the faculty/staff processional.
  2. All rise for the singing of the National Anthem.
  3. Remarks are provided from Moorpark College's President, Luis P. Sanchez.
  4. The Distinguished Faculty Member of the Year will provide some reflections, as will the Chancellor, Academic Senate President, and President of the Associated Students of Moorpark College.
  5. President Sanchez will introduce the 2018 graduating class, and the conferral of the degrees will begin.
  6. Students will be instructed to stand and file out of their seating row and move towards the stage, one row at a time. Please remember to take your name card with you! This card will be handed to the faculty or staff member announcing names. Wait until your name is announced, and then walk across the stage to (gently!) shake hands with the college President with your right hand while receiving your diploma cover in your left hand.
  7. Your picture will be taken by a professional photographer before you exit the stage; a blue marker will be on the stage to indicate where you should stand.
  8. Students will then return to their seats by following the instructions given by the staff ushers.
  9. After all students have walked through, President Sanchez will present the graduating class and close the ceremony.
The commencement ceremony itself will last approximately two hours.
