Our fall term is here giving me the opportunity to meet many of you as you engage in the outstanding programs and services that distinguish Moorpark College as one of America’s best colleges. As your new president, I have now met many wonderful faculty, staff and students while walking around and learning our campus.
Among those with whom I have spoken are recent high school graduates and others are adults attending college for the first time, including returning veterans and those who have taken courses for years. Some students are seeking new career paths, opportunities and gainful employment. Each has his or her dream and is here to make that dream a reality. All share the common vision of pursuing excellence and transforming their lives and identities through learning.
One of my rewards as president is meeting many wonderful people whose lives have been touched by Moorpark College. Everywhere I have gone in Ventura County, I met individuals who have a connection to our college. I met current or former students, faculty members, volunteers and donors. MC is special to each of them. To me, Moorpark College shines in the reflection of its legacy of excellence, strengthened by a half million alumni spanning MC’s more than forty six years as a community hub. In a sense, the MC community is the campus and the citizens are the students.
We are proud of the status of Moorpark College as one of California’s top transfer colleges providing a pathway to future success at CSU, UC and independent colleges. Moorpark College is also a leader in career training and a valued community resource in performing arts, athletics, community service and a special source of programs leading to academic and occupational success in the future of MC alumni.
Our staff engages in continuous planning. At MC we understand that planning is learning. We are working hard to streamline operations, modernize the campus facilities and technology, boost our visibility, and to introduce students to local and global educational and occupational opportunities.
The core values of Moorpark College have been consistent during MC’s decades of service. This includes providing access and opportunity, infusing vitality and helping each student transform a personal vision into a reality. Successful lives and careers don’t just happen. You get lucky when “preparation meets opportunity.” Moorpark College is your place where you have access to opportunity and where we all work hard together to help each person be “lucky” in achieving success. Moorpark faculty know the way. They will show you the way. Together, we will “go the way” that will bring the success that results from translating each vision into a reality.
I am proud to share the dreams and to work with you as you achieve your success.
Welcome to Moorpark College.
