Psychological Counseling
PSYCHOLOGICAL COUNSELING is available to all currently enrolled Moorpark College students. We are committed to providing care to support your academic and personal well being. Short term counseling, education and prevention programs are available. ALL records are CONFIDENTIAL within legal constraints and are NOT part of the student's academic records.STAFF
Our counseling staff is comprised of a licensed Psychologist and post- doctoral psychology fellows and graduate practicum trainees who are sensitive to your needs.
ISSUES COMMONLY DISCUSSED
- Abuse (current or past)
- Anxiety/Stress/Panic Attacks
- Test Anxiety- Many students struggle with tests and exams, fearing that anxiety, the "Test Anxiety Monster" will attack and destroy their performance. Test anxiety can be defeated with preparation and knowledge.
- Depression
- Drug/Alcohol Abuse
- Eating Disorders
- Low Self-Esteem
- Relationship Problems
- Relaxation Training
- Sexuality
INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING
Usually, you meet with an individual counselor from one to four times per semester, to clarify and resolve your issues. If additional counseling is recommended, appropriate referrals will be provided. Students who have two no- show appointments will not be allowed to schedule another appointment until meeting with the Student Health Center Coordinator.
APPOINTMENTS / QUESTIONS
Contact the Student Health Center at (805) 378-1413. Download and complete the Current Concerns form and the Consent for Psychological Counseling form. Bring these forms with you when scheduling your first appointment.
If You Are in Crisis:
Certain situations require immediate attention. If you are having suicidal feelings, or having difficulty controlling the urge to hurt yourself, or anyone else, you need to deal with this NOW. Psychological Services, available during the regular academic year, are not equipped to handle 24-hour emergencies. For emergencies or urgent needs outside regular business hours, the following agencies will connect you with someone who can evaluate your situation now and ensure that you are safe.
