All the World's Primates

This database contains information on the all the species and subspecies of living lorises, galagos, lemurs, tarsiers, monkeys, and apes. The articles cover habitat, social behavior, diet, physical measurements, risks of extinction, and other facts critical to understanding primate lives. There are more than 3000 photographs as well as interactive maps for each species and subspecies, video, audio, links, search tools, multilingual glossaries, review articles and other resources pertinent to primate research. Searching can be done by image, common name or scientific name. Information has been contributed by more than 300 scientists who have done research on primates in their natural habitats. Note: You must be logged into the MyVCCCD portal to use this resource.

Anthrosource

Developed by the American Anthropological Association (AAA), this database provides citations to journal articles in the field of anthropological research. The full text of articles in current issues of such journals as American Anthropologist, American Ethnologist, Anthropology and Education Quarterly, and Medical Anthropology Quarterly are also included. In additional to current publications, indexing includes archives of AAA journals. Searching is done by key words/terms and author searching is also available.

ARTstor

This rich digital library includes more than 500,000 images from the areas of architecture, painting, sculpture, photography, decorative arts, design, and other forms of visual culture. Images are drawn world-wide from such sources as museums, archaeological teams, photo archives, slide collections, and art reference publishers. Descriptive information is given for the individual images. The mission of ARTstor is to assemble image collections across many time periods and cultures and to create an organized resource that supports the noncommercial use of images for research, teaching, and scholarship.

Britannica Online

An electronic version of the Encyclopaedia Britannica that includes more that 121,000 articles along with maps and multimedia. Also available is the Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary and Thesaurus.

CollegeSource Online features over 18,083 college catalogs which are reproduced cover-to-cover. The colleges and universities include 2-year, 4-year, graduate and professional schools throughout the United States and selected countries. Searches can be conducted using various criteria such as tuition, enrollment, major or field of study, etc.

CountryWatch

Provides country specific geopolitical information on the 191 countries of the world. Includes a collection of political and thematic maps as well as statistical data.

Credo Reference

A collection of more than 530 general and specialized full-text reference books searchable by subject; search results include other ebook sources, free web materials, and articles available in selected Moorpark College Library databases. Specialized “Topic Pages” provide a gateway to research and include: a definition of the subject, related images, MC Library database resources, articles from subject encyclopedias, Google book suggestions, news summaries, a list of other relevant search topics, and links to additional MC Library electronic resources.

CQ Researcher

Especially useful in gathering in-depth information on topics of current social, economic, environmental, and political interest, this database is a collection of the issues of the CQ Researcher from 1991 to the present. The CQ Researcher is published each week and each publication, usually some 20+ pages in length, provides an comprehensive and objective overview of a single topic as well as a detailed analysis, a pro-con argument, and an annotated bibliography suggesting further research.

Daily Life Through History

Examines numerous facets of societal life across cultures and time periods. Areas of life explored include: domestic, economic, intellectual, material, political, recreational, religious, and geographic. Information gathered from reference works, books, and primary documents. Searching can be by topic or by topic combined with other concepts such as time period and area of the world. Daily Life Through History - eBook Collection

This database of electronic books examines aspects of daily life in various cultures throughout the world and throughout history. Primarily covering the broad fields of culture and customs, such as food and clothing, the collection also includes books analyzing the history of more than 48 countries.

EBSCO

Academic Search Complete: A scholarly, multi-disciplinary full-text database with more than 8,500 full-text periodicals, including more than 7,300 peer-reviewed journals. In addition to full text, this database offers indexing and abstracts for more than 12,500 journals and a total of more than 13,200 publications including monographs, reports, conference proceedings, etc. The database features PDF content going back as far as 1887, with the majority of full text titles in native (searchable) PDF format. Searchable cited references are provided for more than 1,400 journals.

America: History and Life with Full Text: The best database to use to cover the history and culture of the United States and Canada, from prehistory to the present. This database indexes over 1,700 journals from 1955 to the present with full text access to more than 200 journals and almost 100 books.

Auto Repair Reference Center: Covers 37,000 vehicle models from 1945 to present with drawings, service bulletins and repair procedures.

Book Index with Reviews: Use this extensive database when looking for trustworthy and reliable book reviews. NOTE: Contains access to only limited scholarly, peer reviewed book reviews.

Business Source Elite: This database provides full text access to over 1,000 business publications, with access to some journals going back as far as 1985. Also included within this sources are more than 10,000 company profiles from Datamonitor are also included.

CINAHL Plus with Full Text: This database provides subject and keyword searching capabilities to specialized articles from more than 620 nursing & allied health journals. Evidence-based Care Sheets and health-related pamphlets are also included. Full text articles may be printed from the computer screen or emailed.

Consumer Health Complete: This database is good to use when looking for easy to read and understand health related topics and information. The database provides information from all areas of health and wellness ranging from mainstream medicine to "complementary, holistic and integrated medicine." Consumer Health Complete also includes "the Clinical Reference System and the Lexi-PAL Drug Guide, which provides access to up-to-date, concise and clinically relevant" books about prescription drugs.

Ebook Collection: This electronic library is a searchable collection of more than 14,000 ebooks. Sources include reference books, scholarly monographs, fiction, and non-fiction. Searches can be done within a particular title or performed across hundreds of titles.

ERIC: Developed and maintained by the U.S. Department of Education, ERIC is the preeminent database for any topic related to education. The EBSCO version of this database includes access to 1.3 million records and full-text access to over 300,000 full-text reports and articles contained within ERIC going back to 1966.

Funk & Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia: The online equivalent of the "funky" titled print encyclopedia of the same name.

GreenFile: This database provides full-text access to a collection of almost 5,000 sources "covering all aspects of human impact to the environment. Its collection of scholarly, government and general-interest titles includes content on global warming, green building, pollution, sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, recycling, and more."

Health Source: Nursing/Academic Edition: This database is designed for nursing and allied health students and provides access to almost "550 scholarly full text journals focusing on many medical disciplines. Health Source: Nursing/Academic Edition also features the Lexi-PAL Drug Guide, which covers 1,300 generic drug patient education sheets with more than 4,700 brand names."

MagillOnLiterature Plus: This database provides author biographies, plot summaries and character overviews of famous works of literature. This resource is the online equivalent of the print Masterplots series.

MEDLINE: Developed and maintained by the National Library of Medicine, MEDLINE is the most comprehensive and authoritative database for information on medicine, nursing, health, "pre-clinical sciences, and much more." Contains links to selected full-text sources available with the EBSCO family of databases.

Newspaper Source Plus: This database provides access to more than 860 full-text newspapers, including the Ventura County Star. Also, this database includes almost 1 million television and radio news transcripts.

PsycARTICLES: A database of full text, peer-reviewed scholarly and scientific articles in psychology from the American Psychological Association (APA). It contains more than 153,000 articles from nearly 80 journals published by the APA, its imprint the Educational Publishing Foundation, and from allied organizations including the Canadian Psychological Association. Coverage spans 1894 to the present and nearly all APA journals go back to Volume 1, Issue 1.

Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection: According to EBSCO, "this is the world's largest full text psychology database offering full text coverage for nearly 400 journals." This resource provides access to journal articles on all "topics in emotional and behavioral characteristics, psychiatry & psychology, mental processes, anthropology, and observational & experimental methods."

Religion and Philosophy Collection: This database is the one to use when researching topics such as eschatology, "world religions, major denominations, biblical studies, religious history, epistemology, political philosophy, philosophy of language, moral philosophy and the history of philosophy." This resource contains access to over 300 full text journals.

This broad-based database is comprised of articles from hundreds of popular magazines and scholarly journals, dozens of current newspapers and newswires, thousands of television and radio transcripts, photographs and maps, and numerous reference books. Academic OneFile: A database of peer-reviewed articles from nearly 13,000 academic journals in the physical sciences, technology, medicine, social sciences, the arts, theology, literature and other subjects. Many of the articles are full-text and available in both PDF and HTML formats. Includes full-text coverage of the New York Times back to 1995. All articles have been published between 1980 and 2011.

Gale Virtual Reference Library: A collection of encyclopedias and specialized reference volumes, in ebook format, for multidisciplinary research. Opposing Viewpoints in Context: This database draws on the acclaimed social issues series published by Greenhaven Press, as well as other reference content. JSTOR

This archive provides access to back issues of more than 500 scholarly journals spanning many disciplines. This is not a current issues database; typically there is a gap from 1 to 5 years between the most recently published journal issue and the back issues available in JSTOR. Articles can be searched by key word. Retrieved articles appear as high-resolution, scanned images of journal issues and pages as they were originally designed and printed.

SIRS Knowledge Source
