Associated Students is recognized by Moorpark College as the representative body of the students. As the representative body, the Associated Students (AS) is responsible for voicing students’ ideas, opinions, and concerns, both on and off campus. The AS is also the key to student life on campus. They provide opportunities for students to get involved by hosting and sponsoring events and by supporting student clubs and organizations.
Our Mission Statement:
The Associated Students exists to provide a voice for Moorpark College students’ ideas and opinions. We provide opportunities for students to get involved on campus by hosting events and activities. We also encourage students to join and participate in student organizations. These opportunities will assist students in discovering their own individual uniqueness and potential through practical applications of critical thinking, civic responsibility, leadership, and free expression.
Associated Students Board of Directors
The Associated Students Board of Directors is a ten (10) member elected student government Board. The Board of Directors holds weekly meetings, open to the public, in accordance with the Ralph M. Brown Act. At these meetings the Directors discuss ways to better serve and meet the needs of Moorpark College students. Students are always welcome to attend the Board of Directors Meetings. The Board of Directors includes:

- Director of Constitution and Standing Rules
- Director of External Affairs
- Director of Public Relations
- Director of Student Organizations
- Director of Student Services
Board of Directors meeting agendas are posted weekly right outside the Associated Students Office and on the Associated Students bulletin board along Raider Walk.

What Does the Associated Students Board of Directors Do?
Throughout the year, members of the Board of Directors dedicate their time advocating for fellow students at the local, state and national levels. On campus, the members of the Board of Directors attend college participatory committees to ensure that students’ voices are heard. The Director of External Affairs represents all Moorpark College students at the monthly Ventura County Community College District (VCCCD) Board of Trustee meetings. Additionally, the AS Board Members attend state conferences for the California Community College Student Affairs Association (CCSAAA) and the Student Senate for California Community Colleges (SSCCC). Finally, during the spring semester, the Board of Directors travels to Washington D.C. to meet with congressmen and senators to advocate for community college student issues, such as increasing Pell Grants, lowering textbook prices, and keeping higher education affordable.

Moorpark College Student Life
The Associated Students enrich student life at Moorpark College through the sale of MC student ID cards. Student organizations and campus departments can request funding for events or activities through the AS Programming Committee.
The Moorpark College AS supports student life by:
- Overseeing all MC student organizations
- Sponsoring Club Day, MC Poetry Series, other campus events, and student organization events and activities
- Hosting an annual Talent Show
- Participating in campus wide events including Welcome Week, Multicultural Day, and Year Of events
The Associated Students also provides ten $1,000 scholarships to MC students, awarded by the MC scholarship committee. Applications are available in the Scholarship Office during the spring semester.

Associated Students Board of Directors Committees
The Associated Students Programming Committee exists to provide funding to Moorpark College’s student organizations and campus departments. Funding is allocated from the Associated Students Programming Fund. This fund is derived in part from a designated portion of the Moorpark College Bookstore surplus. The purpose of the fund is to provide extracurricular campus activities, programs, and resources for the students of Moorpark College.
Student organizations and campus departments must complete the Application for Funding in order to be considered for funding. The Programming Committee has specific guidelines to follow when approving funding. (The Programming Committee cannot approve retroactive funding in accordance with Ventura County Community College District policy.)
Programming Committee meeting agendas are posted 72 hours prior to the meeting outside the Associated Students Office, on the bulletin board along Raider Walk, and on-line: Agendas and Minutes.
Ad Hoc Committees:
An ad hoc committee is defined as a committee that is activated for a specific purpose.
Inter Club Council:
The Moorpark College Mission Statement states the college will create learning environments that blend curriculum and services in providing to students extracurricular activities that promote campus community involvement and personal development. The Associated Students of Moorpark College support student life on campus by overseeing all college student organizations. All active Moorpark College student organizations are a part of the Associated Students Inter Club Council.
The purpose of the Inter Club Council (ICC) is to provide students with opportunities to experience personal growth and apply classroom theories, concepts, and principles to real life situations. Participating students gain valuable leadership experience while developing personal and professional relationships. The ICC is composed of ICC officers, and a voting representative from each student organization, in order to represent the cultural, educational, honorary, philanthropic, and social interests of Moorpark College students.
ICC meetings are held monthly throughout the fall and spring semesters.
The AS Board of Directors activates other ad hoc committees as needed throughout the year. For example, an Election Committee is activated in the spring semester to oversee student elections.
How can I get involved?
Elections for the Associated Students are held in April for the following academic year. All students applying as candidates must:
- be currently enrolled in a minimum of 5 units at Moorpark College
- have a cumulative 2.0 GPA (grade point average) or higher
- be a resident of California
- be at least 18 years old
Elected student officers serve a one year term of office from June 1st to May 31st. Students should also expect to dedicate at least 5 hours a week serving the students in addition to the weekly meeting as part of the Board of Directors. Applications are available early in the spring semester in the Associated Students Office.
There are other opportunities for students to get involved on campus. Students may serve on college committees, join an existing student organization, or start a new student organization.
