Career Education Day for High School Students

Biotechnology is a rapidly growing industry with exciting opportunities for employment. The Biotechnology program is one of several in the state with a comprehensive curriculum in Biomanufacturing.  Moorpark College offers a curriculum designed in consultation with local corporations such as Shire Pharmaceuticals and AMGEN.

Students in the Business and Accounting programs at Moorpark College develop an understanding of different facets of accounting and business, including production of goods and services. Students learn how ethics, social responsibility, and diversity affect business. The Hospitality program offers practical and theoretical knowledge of management of hotel staff, upkeep and sanitary standards of hotel facilities, customer service, marketing, sales, accounting, purchasing, production and operations.

During the Campus Tour, visitors will get a broad perspective of Moorpark College’s beautiful campus, and they will learn about the buildings and facilities which support the college’s outstanding educational opportunities.

Computer Science is concerned with the design, modeling, analysis, and applications of computer-related systems. The Computer Science program at Moorpark College prepares students for further study in Computer Science. It also provides vocational training necessary to understand, design, implement, and use the software and hardware of digital computers and digital systems. Demo details TBD

The Cybersecurity program prepares students for careers as security analysts. Students who complete the program will be able to secure networks by performing penetration testing, security audits, digital forensics and investigations, developing security policies, and providing overall security guidance to organizations. Cybersecurity students also learn how to secure networks by performing penetration testing, security audits, assist with investigations, and oversee security policies. Demo details TBD

Data Science is the marriage of statistics and machine learning, with the goal of using data to explain or predict outcomes. Data Science uses concepts and tools from mathematics and computer science, and uses programming to explain or predict outcomes from data. Data Science principles and achievements are omnipresent, dynamic, and ever-changing. Demo details TBD

The Design program prepares students for freelance careers and/or entry-level employment in specialized design agencies, advertising, public relations and related services, printing and publishing firms, newspaper, periodical, book publishers, and television and motion picture studios. Students learn to infuse words and images with life and meaning, whether by creating layouts for print, an interface, or the mobile device, setting type, or using design thinking to deliver design solutions to art directors and clients. Education and Child Development classes are held in the same building as the Child Development Center Laboratory School, which offers Moorpark College students hands-on clinical and internship experiences with children aged two-to-five years. The proximity of the Lab to the college classroom allows students taking in-person classes to see the application of their coursework to the work of a teacher. The Teaching and Education Pathway programs prepare students for transfer to a college or university and for careers in a variety of professional areas such as Family Development, Preschool and Kindergarten Education, Elementary Education, and Early Intervention/Special Education. This demo offers a tour of the Child Development Center and Q&A with the Center's director, Johanna Pimentel, and the department chair, Dr. Cindy Sheaks.  

This program offers preparation for students interested in entering the expanding animal care industry. The increasing importance of zoos and wildlife education to the efforts of conservation, as well as the use of animals in various entertainment fields, present many career options to graduates of this curriculum. 

The FTMA program prepares students for careers in educational or commercial radio, television, or film production.  Related careers include Film and Television Producers, Film and Television Directors, Film and Video Editors, Camera Operators for Television and Motion Pictures, and Broadcast Technicians. 

Exercise Science is the study of how the body reacts and adapts to a variety of stresses. During this postural analysis demo you will have the opportunity to see first-hand what it looks like to study anatomy, biomechanics, and physiology in the college’s state-of-the-art athletics facilities. You will also learn about exciting career opportunities in the field of physical therapy, athletic performance, and fitness.

Moorpark College has three makerspaces, which are part of a growing movement across the country to support creativity and entrepreneurship.  Makerspaces house the tools and technology which allow students to realize their ideas as they create objects of function and beauty. 

The Photography program is designed for students to acquire the skills necessary to enter the very competitive profession of photography. Instruction is provided in both black and white and color photography, along with mastery of the latest in technology and equipment. Photography majors will be prepared for an entry level position in commercial photography, transfer to a 4-year Fine Arts program, and/or a career related to fine art photography. Demo details TBD

Radiologic Technology is the art and science of using radiation to provide images of bones, internal organs, soft tissue and vessels that comprise the human body. These images are digitally recorded and used as a tool to diagnose disease, injury, or congenital deformity. Successful completion of the Moorpark College Associate of Science Degree in Radiologic Technology qualifies a student to take the professional licensing examination to become a registered Radiologic Technologist.

The Moorpark College Performing Arts Center (PAC) is a state-of-the-art facility which hosts a variety of student-led productions throughout the year.  The PAC is home to an extensive set production workshop, high tech special effects and audio/visual controls, complex rigging systems, costuming and make-up facilities, and much more!  Tour participants will get a behind-the-scenes experience as they see the creativity, technology, and hard work that help make the college’s Theatre Arts program exceptional.  The tour will also include an up-close look at many aspects of the current production.

Production Makeup – Among the many facets of a successful theatrical production is the art and application of makeup.  In this demo, students will step into an active class to observe what it takes to prepare actors for a real production.

I'm a highly motivated and energetic personality that is passionate about inspiring and empowering individuals to follow their dreams and live their best life. In addition to promoting the importance of Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs, I am an advocate for low-income single mothers and increasing parental involvement. Professionally, I am a member of several organizations including the California Association of African American Superintendents and Administrators (CAAASA), and the Association of California Superintendents & Administrators (ACSA), where I served as the Regional XIII Equity & Diversity Chair for three years and the South Ventura Charter President for two years.
