As stated earlier, the VEX Robotics projects has been ongoing since 2012. Every year our club participates in the VEX Robotics competition for university and college students according to the rules set forth by the VEX organization. Every year during the Fall semester students are informed of the new competition rules and they begin working on designing and making robots that can accomplish the goals of the competition and during the Spring semester is when the local competitions start and then depending on their level of success they get invited to participate in the World’s VEX Robotics competitions.
Our engineering club has been invited to participate in the VEX Robotics competitions every year since we stated joining this competition in 2012! Our students have always won many local competitions against universities and colleges such as CSUN, USC, Santa Monica College, Mt. San Antonio College, to name a few. Our students have also won many awards including team work award, best technical notebook award, best design award, best programming of the robot award, and twice during the World’s VEX Robotics competitions they have won awards for being the best college team in design and communication and sportsmanship. We have these medals and trophies showcased in a glass box outside of the club workroom.
Our students have not always been able to participate in the World’s VEX Robotics competition, even though they were invited, due to lack of funding as these competitions are usually held outside of CA in Dallas, TX and Kansas City, MO.
Our student try to fund raise by seeking sponsorship form industry and doing local fundraising activities such as partnering with fast food restaurants, doing bake sale, selling 3-D printed objects and T-shirts.
