About Program

The Child Development Department

Prepares students for transfer to a bachelor's degree program in Child Development or a related discipline, an Associate in Science Degree in Child Development, completion of Certificates of Achievement, and the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing Child Development Permit levels of Assistant, Associate Teacher, Teacher, Master Teacher, Site Supervisor and Program Director. Students who complete Child Development courses will be able to apply concepts of child growth, development, and learning from conception through adolescence within the family and cultural context.

Child Development classes are held in the same building as the Child Development Center Laboratory School. At Moorpark College, being a “lab” school means that the Child Development Center is an integral part of the Child Development Instructional Department. Students who complete the Child Development program will develop both the knowledge of subject matter and professional skills needed for success in transferring to a college or university and careers in a variety of vocational areas including the Family Development and Early Education fields.
