The Ventura County Community College District (VCCCD) requires health and accident insurance coverage for all International Students (F-1 Visa). If you already have insurance before enrolling in school, you must provide the name of your insurance company, policy number, expiration date, and policy coverage limits in English to determine whether your policy can be accepted and waived. There is no guarantee that you will be able to keep your previous insurance. If you do not have health insurance coverage, you must obtain insurance in the U.S. prior to or upon arrival at the college and before enrolling in classes. After arrival in the US, your policy must be purchased from the district-approved provider.  Information is available for you in the International Student Office.

Waiver Eligibility Criteria and Process

If you meet one of the requirements below, you may request a waiver.
  1. You are a sponsored student (SACM, Fulbright, foreign government) with program-provided health insurance.
  2. You have existing health insurance that meets or exceeds the benefits of the LewerMark plan and includes the following:
    1. Unlimited annual medical benefit
    2. A deductible of no more than $50 per policy year
    3. A network of doctors/medical facilities in the United States (examples: Aetna, Blue Cross, Cigna, Humana, United HealthCare, etc.)
    4. Coverage for inpatient and outpatient mental health treatment (must include at least 30 days inpatient and 30 outpatient visits)
    5. Coverage for pre-existing conditions after a 6-month waiting period
    6. At least $50,000 for repatriation
    7. At least $100,000 for medical evacuation
       Note: Emergency-only and/or travel plans are not accepted for the 
purpose of waiver determination.
