You can call 911 or walk into any emergency room if you are in need of emergency psychiatric care, or if you feel that you are unable to maintain your physical safety due to experiencing suicidal thoughts. If you are currently experiencing suicidal thoughts, go to your nearest emergency room immediately.

The following hotlines are also available to help.

  • Ventura County Behavioral Health (VCBH) Crisis Team: To access mental health services, or for immediate help, please call 1-866-998-2243 (24/7 hotline).

  • LA County DMH 24/7 ACCESS & Helpline: Call 800-854-7771 or text “LA” to 741741

  • National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: 800-273-8255(TALK)

  • Crisis Text Line: Text “HOME” to 741741 to connect with a crisis counselor

  • Veteran’s Crisis Line: Call 1-800-273-8255, text 838255, or chat online

  • National Domestic Violence Hotline: Call 1-800-799-SAFE (7233), Text "START" to 88788, or go online to chat

  • Trevor Project Suicide Hotline: 24/7 Crisis hotline, call 1-866-488-7386

  • Trans Lifeline: 877-565-8860

  • GLBT National Hotline: 888-843-4564

To access mental health services through your health insurance, check the back of your insurance card and look for a phone number indicating “mental health” or “behavioral health” to get referrals to providers in-network with your health plan. Other resources include:

 

  • Moorpark College – Student Health Center: Students are able to receive up to 6 sessions a semester. Sessions are free, confidential, and do not go on academic records. Call (805) 378-1413 to request services.

  • Ventura County Behavioral Health (VCBH): Our services include help for adults, transitional age youth (ages 16-25), as well as youth and families. To access mental health services, or for immediate help, please call 1-866-998-2243.

  • Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health (LACDMH): Services for adults, youth, and families. Call 800-854-7771 to get help near you.

  • Cal Lutheran Community Counseling: Affordable counseling for individuals, families, & couples. Located in Westlake Village and Oxnard. Call 805-493-3390.

  • Free Clinic of Simi Valley: Individuals and families. The average course of therapy ranges from six weeks to six months. A donation of $40 is suggested per session. Call 805-522-3733.

  • Coalition for Family Harmony: Ventura County. Provides direct services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Office 805-983-6014, Hotline 800-300-2181

  • NAMI Ventura County: Support groups and education classes for persons suffering from mental illness, as well as their family members.

  • Psychology Today: Find mental health providers, can refine results by insurance accepted, type of provider, area served, and more.

  • Open Path Psychotherapy Collective: Affordable, in-office and online psychotherapy sessions between $30 and $60 (between $30 and $80 for couples & family sessions).

  • Inclusive Therapy: Online directory to find a culturally responsive, social justice-oriented therapist. Centers the needs of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) and the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.

  • Therapy for Latinx: Online directory for culturally responsive therapists, created for the Latinx community

  • Therapy for Black Girls: Therapy for Black Girls is an online space dedicated to encouraging the mental wellness of Black women and girls. Find a great therapist for Black girls in your area.

  • National Queer & Trans Therapists of Color Network: Online QTPoC Mental Health Practitioner Directory as well as supplemental financial assistance for QTPoC who cannot afford psychotherapy.

  • Ventura County ACCESS (Substance Use Treatment Services): Call 1-844-385-9200 for access to free or no cost mental health services including outpatient services, residential treatment, withdrawal management (detox), Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT), case Management, recovery services, and specialized programs for women, youth, and people who are justice-involved

  • Los Angeles County Substance Abuse Service Hotline (SASH): 24/7 referral line to access substance use treatment services in LA County for LA County residents. Free for Medi-Cal, My Health LA, and Other County-Funded Eligible Youth and Adults

  • Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA): SAMHSA’s National Helpline is a free, confidential, 24/7, 365-day-a-year treatment referral and information service (in English and Spanish) for individuals and families facing mental and/or substance use disorders.

  • Ventura County Alcoholics Anonymous (AA): 24/7 Hotline 805-389-1444

  • San Fernando Valley Alcoholics Anonymous (AA): Helpline 818-988-3001

  • County Line Area of Narcotics Anonymous (NA): Hotline 1-888-672-9318

  • Gold Coast Area of Narcotics Anonymous (NA): Helpline 1-888-817-7425

  • SMART Recovery: Science based recovery support groups. 1-866-951-5357
