The Dream Act Service Incentive Grant (DSIG) allows eligible California Dream Act students to earn financial support by completing paid community service hours on campus. DSIG is a great option for students who want meaningful work experience but do not qualify for Federal Work-Study.
What Is DSIG?
DSIG is a state-funded service grant administered by the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC). Instead of receiving a paycheck, students earn a grant disbursement after completing approved service hours with a campus department.
- Up to $2,250 per semester for 150 service hours
- Up to $4,500 per academic year for 300 total hours
- Available for up to 8 semesters
- No cost to campus departments
Who Is Eligible?
To qualify for DSIG, students must:
- Complete a California Dream Act Application (CADAA) for the academic year
- Be an active Cal Grant A or B recipient
- Demonstrate financial need (determined by CSAC and verified by Financial Aid)
- Be enrolled at least half-time
What Kind of Work Can DSIG Students Do?
DSIG placements are service-based and aligned with students’ academic or career interests. Common roles include:
- Front desk and clerical support
- Event planning and logistics
- Community outreach and tabling
- Data collection or research support
- Graphic design, web, or IT support
- Student support services
